5. FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENTS, LABOUR COSTS AND COMPETITIVENESS AFTER THE FINANCIAL CRISIS IN CENTRAL EUROPE

Abstract

The paper overviews the inflows and changes of FDI stocks and greenfield investments, covering Czech Republik, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia over 2010-2013. Some human resource related indicators, the employment and unemployment rates, labour costs, labour and human resource efficiencies are analysed. Besides, these countries’ competitiveness indicators are evaluated in line with the latest Europe 2020 Competitiveness Report. The overall picture confirms that the Czech Republic navigated fairly well the years after the crisis, while Poland was continuously improving its positions. Slovakia had some areas and years with good performances, while Hungary was slightly losing momentum compared to the other three countries.
